Postdoc position in biodiversity of marine restoration project

We are seeking applicants for a 3-year postdoc in marine biodiversity, to join us at the Department of ECOSCIENCE working within developing methods for monitoring, modelling, and assessing the biodiversity gained through marine restoration projects

This is a 3–year position from 1 September 2024 or as soon as possible.

This is a fixed-term position to end on 31 August 2027.
Job description
The postdoc position is part of a newly funded Aage V. Jensen project: Quantification of marine Ecosystem Services in connection with Marine nature Restoration (QESMAR). The overall aim of the QESMAR project is to develop a standardized assessment framework to efficiently quantify achieved ES´s and make them comparable across different restored habitats. To support this, the postdoc will collaborate with 2 PhD projects to develop tools to efficiently monitoring and quantify a range of ES’s associated with marine restoration projects.

• You will be working primarily with field-based monitoring using both conventional and molecular techniques
• Investigations will be done in different restored habitats (seagrass meadows, kelp forests, mussel reefs)
• You will be a part of the marine group that covers research and advisory tasks across the marine environment mainly related to Danish and Arctic waters
• These activities will be conducted in close collaboration with the marine biodiversity monitoring group as well as the marine model group at the department as well as external partners
• It is expected that you contribute to strengthen the competences of the Danish national center for marine restoration https://marinnatur.dk/

Applicants should hold a PhD in marine ecology, biology, environmental sciences, or similar. We expect that you have:

• Expert knowledge on benthic ecology and biodiversity
• Expert knowledge in the use of conventional and molecular methods for monitoring benthic biodiversity
• Experience with marine restoration
• Publications in high-ranking journals
• Good collaboration skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team within marine science
• Very good knowledge of English (written and oral)
• Good communication skills (scientific community, the public, stakeholders, and managers)
• Experience in data analysis and statistical tools
• Preferable experience with advisory work

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
