Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD fellowship on metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. The start date is the 1st September 2017. The project will be carried out at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
Responsibilities and tasks
Synthetic biology enables us to create novel cell factories for the production of fuels and chemicals from renewable feedstocks. Secretion of products presents many advantages for the fermentation process, such as reductions in product feedback inhibition and degradation, increased cell fitness, and simplified product recovery. This PhD project will address the challenge of engineering the efflux of small molecules in synthetic yeast cell factories.
The candidate must have a Master's degree in engineering/biology/biotechnology or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the Master's degree. Solid knowledge of molecular biology techniques, genetics, bioinformatics and biochemistry is required.
Previous experience with yeast genetic engineering is a plus.

The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
