Postdoc: Urban governance with a particular focus on smart urban intermediaries
Department of Department of Social Sciences and Business, Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as postdoc of urban governance with a particular focus on Smart Urban Intermediaries from 1 of June or as soon as possible thereafter. The position as postdoc is limited to a period of 2.5 years (28 month) and is carried out half time with a start of 1 June 2016.
The post.doc will be part of a EU funded project with the title ‘Smart urban intermediaries’ (short: SmartUrbI) that takes place in close collaboration with its core consortium partners, Tilburg University (TiU), The University of Edinburgh (UoE), University of Birmingham (UoB) and the Danish Town Planning Institute (DPTI). The research is a 2,5 year project, that combines intensive, practitioner-oriented, comparative and international fieldwork with local and transnational living labs. The project manager in Denmark is Associate Professor Annika Agger.
Responsibilities and tasks
The postdoc’s duties will include research within urban governance. Main task for the post-doc is to build a network in the field Copenhagen and conduct intensive fieldwork in neighborhoods in Copenhagen (observations, shadowing, interviews). The post-doc will take the lead in organizing a local ‘living lab’, which also entails use of new qualitative methods like photo-voice. Finally, the post-doc support of project management.
The candidate has or is about to receive a Phd. in public administration, public policy or public management, political science, urban and regional planning or an adjacent field. She/he is acquainted with theories of urban governance and in working with practitioners. She/he has experience in designing research. She/he has done substantive qualitative fieldwork and analysis (preferably including participant observation) and is willing to spend substantial amounts of time in the field (1 or 2 days a week).
She/he has very good networking skills, combined with the entrepreneurial mindset needed to get things going and attain results. The ability to (co-)design and organize interactive sessions with project partners and participants in the field is also important. The ability to analyzing quantitative reports is an asset, as is experience with (the support of) project management. Finally, she/he has excellent communicative skills (writing and speaking) in both Danish and English.
You are also required to be enterprising and to possess good interpersonal skills and to be a visible, active participant in the department’s daily activities, in addition to being willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.

Terms of employment
The postdoc will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The postdoc is covered by the Protocol on Job Structure.
