Roskilde Universitet (RUC)

Ph.d. & forskning
Østsjælland

Department of Science and Environment, Roskilde University, invites applications for two positions; one position as an assistant professor of Chemistry and one position as a PostDoc of Chemistry. Both positions are from 1 August 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position as assistant professor is limited to 3 years and 2 months and the position as PostDoc is limited to 1 year and 7 months. Department of Science and Environment is one of four departments at Roskilde University. The department conducts basic and applied research within medical biology, molecular biology, environmental sciences, chemistry, physics and mathematics. Bachelor and master programs are offered within the same areas.

The department is organized into four research groups: Medical & Molecular Biology, Environmental Dynamics, Mathematics & Physics and Chemistry. We strive to work interdisciplinary within the department, within the main areas at Roskilde University and in close and open-minded collaboration with private companies, public institutions, hospitals and universities and NGOs.

Responsibilities and tasks:
The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within Chemistry. In addition to research and research-based teaching, the post also includes a duty to share knowledge with the rest of society – including participation in public debate. To a limited extent this may also include performance of other duties.

The PostDoc’s duties will fall within research including publication, scientific communication and some supervision of graduate students.

The assistant professor is also expected to complete the educational training programme for assistant professors at RUC (up to 220 hours).

Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a PhD degree within Chemistry.

The successful candidates to the positions are expected to have a first-rate research record within enzymology; preferably within the area of enzyme processes that occur at an interface (heterogeneous enzyme catalysis). We are particularly interested in candidates with research experience within

  • Development, implementation and interpretation of quantitative assays for enzymes acting on insoluble substrate
  • Enzyme design including structural- and bioinformatics analyses and protein engineering
  • Cellulases and other glycoside hydrolases

The assistant professor/PostDoc is also required to be enterprising and to possess good interpersonal skills and to be a visible, active participant in the department’s daily activities, in addition to being willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.

Assessment:

  • In the assessment of candidates for a position as assistant professor consideration will be given to;
