Department of Social Sciences and Business (ISE), Roskilde University, invites applications for one or more fixed-term position(s) as Professor(s) with special responsibilities (MSO) in Business Studies. The position is available from December 1 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

In announcing a professorship with special responsibilities, ISE looks to develop its research and teaching in innovation in service and experience further. Focus may be on ICT in services, the experience economy and/or service innovation.

ISE conducts interdisciplinary, collaborative and socially engaged research based on business studies, political science, economics, anthropology, sociology, legal studies, and development studies. It is an innovative and interdisciplinary university environment characterized by academic and methodological diversity in research and education. The department’s researchers put emphasis on research methodologies and they share a commitment to understanding businesses and society in diverse contexts of change and global engagement. We produce research at the highest international level that feeds into our educational programmes, while simultaneously leveraging our research to impact social, economic and political change. Research in the department is organised in research groups. Responsibilities and tasks
The professor (MSO) is expected to maintain a significant own record of publications as well as to make a contribution to the research culture in the department. The professor’s (MSO) work primarily includes research and research-based teaching and supervision in business studies at BA and MA level. In addition to research and research-based teaching, the position also involves sharing knowledge with the rest of society – including participation in the public debate. Furthermore, the professor (MSO) is expected to attract research grants, manage research projects, provide guidance and supervision of PhD students and assistant professors, participate actively in research groups and development of new teaching activities, and actively engage in external fundraising and other activities to increase funds for the Department as well as take part in academic assessments and other tasks requested by the Department.

The ideal candidate is expected to:

  • Have established him/herself as an important scholar in his/her field,
  • Accomplish research and engage in research cooperation meeting high international standards,
  • Show academic leadership by developing and managing core educational and research related tasks,
  • Contribute to boost the international recognition of the research of the Department,
  • Engage in large-scale external fundraising to increase funds for PhDs, post docs etc. at the Department,
  • Participate in research management (including initiating and leading research projects/programmes),
  • Play a role in developing the educational programmes of the Department,
  • Actively contribute to the administrative responsibilities of the Department and to RUC-wide tasks,
  • Participate in the Department’s communication with the broader public,
  • Take active responsibility for the long-term well-being of the department and RUC at large
  • Actively contribute to the research environment by a visible and physical presence at ISE, and
  • Promote RUC’s academic reputation.

Applicants must hold a relevant PhD degree. The ideal candidate matches most of the following characteristics:

  • International research profile within business studies with a particular focus on innovation in service and experience
  • Considerable teaching experience within the field of business studies
  • Demonstrated ability to attract external research funding, and
  • A keen interest and experience in project-based teaching and teaching in an interdisciplinary environment.

Moreover, the ideal candidate shall be enterprising and possess good communication skills, and be a visible involved participant in the department’s daily activities, in addition to being willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.

Ability to teach in Danish is a great asset and successful candidates who do not speak Danish (or possibly Swedish or Norwegian) will be requested to acquire the necessary skills in Danish within the first two years of service, so as to ensure that they can participate satisfactorily in teaching activities as well as in academic and administrative activities at the University. At the time of appointment, successful candidates must master English for academic purposes. In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:

  • Research topic(s) (including the fit between the Business Studies programmes and the applicant’s research profile)
  • Original scientific production at a high international level
  • The fit between the description of the suggested responsibility (see application below) and ISE’s research strategy
  • Strong teaching qualifications, considerable experience with project-based learning, and substantial interdisciplinary teaching experience,
  • Experience in education development and management
  • Experience in successfully supervising PhD candidates
  • Proven ability to attract external funds for research
  • The ability to promote and utilise research results
  • The ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation

Terms of employment
The employment is full time and you will refer to Head of Department Peter Kragelund

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.

Commencing salary will be for professor (MSO) minimum DKK 555.455 per year (1st April 2018 level) plus pension contribution (17,1 %).

The professorship with special responsibilities (MSO) is a category where the appointment is limited to a [number (3 to 8)]-year period. On the expiry of the professorship period, the appointee is ensured employment and remuneration as an associate professor.

After the deadline for applications the Head of Department will shortlist applicants for assessment with assistance from the recruitment committee including the chairperson of the assessment committee.

Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.

The shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will be given the opportunity to comment on the composition of the committee and - later on - their assessment.
